Red Ravens Dismantle Odessa 95-56, Advance to Quarterfinals of NJCAA Tournament

Hutchinson, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Basketball Team thoroughly dismantled the Odessa Wranglers 95-56 in their NJCAA second-round matchup.  With the win, the Red Ravens improve to 24-3 on the year and more importantly, advance into the NJCAA quarterfinals where they will face the Northern Oklahoma College (NOC) - Tonkawa Mavericks (24-1).

Coffeyville came into this matchup feeling pretty good about themselves after an 89-62 NJCAA opening round defeat of Southwest Tennessee Community College.  To use a boxing analogy, the Ravens came with the knock-out punch early in the first half against Odessa.

The first 3-4 minutes of the game again seemed as though Coffeyville was feeling Odessa out to see what they could do.  At this point, the Red Ravens found themselves down 11-6 at the 16:13 mark of the first half. Over the next seven minutes of game time, the Red Ravens brought out the haymaker and went on a 26-3 run that ended at the 9:24 mark of the first half with Coffeyville holding a substantial 32-14 lead.  From that point forward, Odessa was playing catch-up and the strong shooting of Coffeyville (53% for the game) was just not going to let the Wranglers climb back into it.

In the second half, Odessa was never really able to get up off the mat and the Red Ravens cruised to the 95-56 victory.

Coffeyville led in all the statistical categories such as shooting (53% to 40%), three-point shooting (50% to 28%), free throw percentage (77% to 43%), rebounds (37 to 29), turnovers (12 to 24), and fastbreak points (14 to 8).

The game was a team effort for the Red Ravens with six players in double figures including all five starters.  Leading the way was freshman guard Love Bettis who had 22 points on a sizzling 8 for 9 shooting night.  Sophomore guards Tylor Perry contributed 15 points while Bostyn Holt hit for 14 points.  Sophomore forward Larry White, freshman center Blaise Keita, and redshirt freshman Markeith Browning all ended the night with 10 points each.

Coffeyville advances into the NJCAA Quarterfinals where they will play NOC-Tonkawa (24-1) on Thursday (April 22nd) afternoon at 2:00 pm in Hutchinson Kansas.
