Coffeyville, Kan. - The #12 NJCAA-ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football team lost their 2024 Homecoming matchup against the #1 ranked Hutchinson Blue Dragons 40-17. With the defeat, the Red Ravens' overall 2024 record falls to 4-3 including a 1-2 KJCCC conference record.
The Red Ravens struggled in the first quarter as the #1 NJCAA-ranked Hutchinson converted multiple Red Raven miscues, which included a Coffeyville fumble and a bad snap that turned into a Blue Dragon Safety, to take a late first-quarter 16-0 lead over Coffeyville.
Coffeyville was able to crack onto the scoreboard late in the first quarter as Red Raven freshman quarterback Chris Arviso connected with freshman receiver Jalile Bost for a 40-yard touchdown (Roan McCarthy PAT Good) to pull Coffeyville within 16-7 to end the first quarter.
The second quarter had each team connecting on field goals as Hutchinson made a 33-yard field goal while Coffeyvillel's McCarthy drilled a 36-yard field goal to send the teams into halftime with the Blue Dragons leading the Ravens 19-10.
Coming out after halftime, the Blue Dragons marched down the field going 10 plays and 73 yards capped off by a 20-yard touchdown pass to give Hutchinson a 26-10 lead at the 10:56 mark of the third quarter. Just over a minute later, Hutchinson intercepted an Arviso pass which they were able to convert into a 10-yard rushing touchdown to push the score out to 33-10 at the seven-minute mark of the third quarter.
Red Raven sophomore tight end Brec Long rushed 4 yards for a Coffeyville touchdown to pull the Red Ravens to within 33-17 on the scoreboard.
Hutchinson ended the scoring with an mid fourth-quarter 6-yard rushing touchdown to push the final score out to 40-17 in favor of the Blue Dragons.
Coffeyville will return to action on Saturday, October 26th as they travel to Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls IA with kick-off set for 1:00 p.m.
