Coffeyville Men's Soccer Loses on Penalty Kicks to Barton in Opening Round of Playoffs

Great Bend, Kan. -  The # 5 seeded Coffeyville Community College Men's Soccer Team came close to pulling the upset but lost in the first round of the Plains District Playoff to #2 seeded Barton on a penalty kick shootout (4-3) after playing to a 1-1 tie through two overtime periods.  With the loss, the Red Ravens end their 2024 season with an overall record of 4-10-5.

Coffeyville opened the scoring early as freshman Andres Pereira was able to net an unassisted goal roughly two minutes into the match to give Coffeyville an early 1-0 lead.  That 1-0 lead held up all the way to the 72 minute of the match before Barton found the back of the net to tie up the match 1-1 with 18 minutes to go.  Both team's defenses held up through the remainder of regulation as well as through two overtime periods.

The match came down to penalty kicks.  The first two kicks for both teams scored.  However, Coffeyville missed their third kick while Barton connected on theirs.  Both teams scored on their fourth shots.  Coffeyville's last hope came down to their fifth penalty kick.  The Red Ravens could not connect on their final kick and Barton had the match on a 4-3 penalty shot score.
