#13 Red Ravens Block FG as Time Expires to Defeat #15 Dodge City 13-12

Coffeyville, Kan. - A missed extra point by Dodge City and a blocked field goal by Coffeyville led to the #13 ranked Red Ravens defeating the #15 Conquistadors of Dodge City 13-12.  With the victory, Coffeyville improved their overall 2024 record to 7-2 including a 3-1 record in KJCCC matchups.

On a drizzly afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium, Coffeyville jumped out early on the Conquistadors of Dodge City scoring an early 33-yard Hunter Martens field goal to go up 3-0 midway through the first quarter.  At the very end of the first quarter, Red Raven quarterback Joseph Vick hooked up with tight end Brec Long for a 54-yard touchdown pass (Martens' PAT good) to give Coffeyville a 10-0 lead to start the second quarter.

Coffeyville added another Martens field goal, this one from 38 yards out just as time expired going into halftime to give the Ravens a 13-0 lead at halftime.

Dodge City broke onto the scoreboard in the third quarter as the Conquistadors managed a 29-yard field goal midway through the third quarter to pull within 13-3.

The Conquistadors added another field goal (19 yards) to start the fourth quarter to close the score to 13-6 with eleven minutes to play in the fourth quarter.

The closing five minutes of the game were a wild affair starting off with a 29-yard  field goal attempt by the Ravens.  Dodge City blocked the attempt, scooped up the blocked field goal, and raced 82 yards for the Conquistador touchdown.  However, after an unsportsmanlike penalty on Dodge City pushed the extra point attempt back 15 yards, the extra point try was ultimately blocked by the Red Ravens to maintain the lead in the game 13-12.

A three-and-out by Coffeyville along with a 61-yard punt by Red Raven Brady Braun and the Conquistadors got the ball back at their 15-yard line.  After an 11-play 63-yard drive, Dodge City lined up for a 39-yard field goal with just a few seconds on the game clock.  Just before the snap, Coffeyville called a time-out to try and ice the Conquistador kicker.  After the time-out and with one second showing on the clock, Dodge City snapped the ball and Red Raven freshman defensive back Loren Hall came unblocked for the right side of the offensive line and cleanly blocked the field goal attempt to secure the 13-12 victory for Coffeyville.

After the victory, Coffeyville stands at 7-2 with two games left in the regular season.  The Red Ravens will welcome the Pirates of Independence into Veterans Memorial Stadium next Saturday, November 9th.  The kickoff for the newest addition of the Montgomery County Bowl is set for 1:00 pm.
