Council Bluffs, Iowa - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football Team was not able to overcome a rough first half in a 42-20 loss at the #2 ranked Iowa Western Reivers. With the loss, the Red Ravens' overall record moves to 2-2 including an 0-1 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) games.
The Red Ravens could not get to the halftime locker room quickly enough. #2 Iowa Western scored 35 points in the first half while Coffeyville's only points came on a blocked field goal that Red Raven sophomore Cyler Christmas scooped up and raced 75-yards for the Raven touchdown. Coffeyville's Hunter Marten missed the PAT and the Ravens found themselves down 35-6 at halftime.
Coffeyville played better after halftime outscoring the Reivers 14-7 in the second half. The Ravens received the second-half kick-off and went on a 17-play 81-yard drive ending with red-shirt freshman Steven Robinson diving into the endzone for a 3-yard touchdown run. Hunter Marten's PAT was good and Coffeyville pulled to within 35-13 midway through the third quarter. After an Iowa Western touchdown early in the fourth quarter to put the score at 42-13, the last score of the game was by Coffeyville as freshman receiver Jalile Bost hauled in a 23-yard touchdown pass from Coffeyville's red-shirt freshman quarterback Chris Arviso to post the final score of 42-20 for Iowa Western.
Coffeyville will return to Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, October 5th with a KJCCC matchup against the Scotties of Highland Community College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
