Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball Team opened up their 24-25 season with convincing victories over Connors State (88-55) on Friday night and NEO (69-53) on Saturday afternoon in the 2024 Gillham's Classic held in Nellis Gymnasium.

On Friday night against Connors, Coffeyville jumped out quickly leading 45-28 at halftime and cruising in the second half to the 88-55 victory. Top performers in the game for the Red Ravens included sophomore Ava Baker who couldn't miss on opening night going 7-7 from the field including 3-3 from behind the arc, and freshman Aspen Clarkson who contributed 17 points and 8 rebounds. Other double-figure scorers for Coffeyville included sophomore Karys Washington with 15 points and 9 rebounds, sophomore Norika Welch with 11 points and 6 rebounds, and freshman Olivia Littlecook with 10 points.

On Saturday afternoon, the Red Ravens again started off the game quickly jumping out to a 41-21 halftime lead over NEO. Coffeyville extended their lead out to 57-33 at the end of three quarters. However, with the Ravens playing mostly reserves in the fourth quarter NEO outscored Coffeyville 20-12 in the fourth quarter to post the closing score of 69-53. Coffeyville posted three players in double figures including freshman Aubrey Hishaw with 16 points and 8 rebounds, sophomore Norika Welch with 15 points, and freshman Karliey Parker with 11 points and 6 rebounds.
Coffeyville will push for their third victory of the early season with a matchup against the Greyhounds of Fort Scott CC on Tuesday, November 5th in Nellis Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
