Red Ravens Win Weather Shortened Opener 35-0

Salina, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football Team opened up their 2024 season but could not outrun the Kansas weather.  In a game against the Kansas Wesleyan College JV that started an hour early (6:00 pm) in an attempt to beat the weather, the Red Ravens defeated the JV Coyotes 35-0.  The game was called eleven minutes into the second quarter with Coffeyville leading 35-0.  Coffeyville earned their first victory of the 2024 year (1-0) and new Head Coach Nick Dobler earned a notch in the victory column.

Points were scored quickly by the Red Ravens.  On the first play from scrimmage, red-shirt freshman Steven Robinson peeled off a 63-yard touchdown run to give the Ravens an early 7-0 lead (freshman Roan McCarthy XP was good).

After a quick three and out by the JV Coyotes, the Ravens got the ball back and went on a 9-play touchdown drive culminating with sophomore Tre'avis Jones rushing for an 18-yard touchdown to give Coffeyville a 14-0 lead (McCarthy XP good).

A 6-play punt from KWU JV, allowed the Ravens the ball back, and on the next play freshman quarterback Joseph Vick hit red-shirt freshman Ty Durham for a 33-yard touchdown pass to give the Ravens the 21-0 lead (McCarthy XP good) at the end of the first quarter.

A fumble by the Coyotes allowed the Ravens to get the ball on a short field early in the second quarter.  Six plays later, freshman Carson Creehan completed a 4-yard pass to sophomore Brec Long for the touchdown.  Mcarthy's XP was good and the Ravens had a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Coffeyville's last touchdown came on a 7-yard completion from Creehan to red-shirt freshman Jaden Jones for the touchdown.

With about four minutes to go until halftime, the weather rolled in and would not allow the game to continue.

Coffeyville will return to action with a road game at Cisco College in Cisco Texas on Saturday, September 7th.   Kick-off against the Wranglers is set for 6:00 p.m.
