Cisco, Texas - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football Team posted their second win of the season while moving to an overall 2-0 record with a 37-19 road victory over the Cisco Wranglers.
The Red Ravens got off to a hot start in the first quarter scoring 24 of their 37 points in the opening quarter. For the game, Coffeyville had a good mixture of offense with 200 yards of rushing compared to 186 yards through the air.
Defensively Coffeyville was sound causing 5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and causing 4 turnovers on the afternoon.
Nevertheless, The afternoon did not start the best for Coffeyville as on the first play of the game Cisco connected on a 75-yard touchdown pass. The Wranglers' 2-point conversion try was unsuccessful and the Ravens were down 6-0 barely 15 seconds into the contest. However, the tables favored Coffeyville for the rest of the first half.
Coffeyville's first possession after Cisco's opening score was a seven-play scoring drive capped off by a 27-yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Tre'avis Jones to put the Red Ravens on the scoreboard. Red Raven freshman kicker Roan McCarthy converted the extra point to give the Ravens the 7-6 lead early in the first quarter.
After a three-and-out by Cisco combined with a short punt, Coffeyville took over at Cisco's 33-yard line. The Ravens went 22 yards in 9 plays before Raven kicker McCarthy converted a 28-yard field goal to put the Ravens up 10-6 with 9:00 to go in the first quarter.
After another short punt by Cisco, Coffeyville went 47-yards in five plays capped off by a 20-yard touchdown pass from red-shirt freshman quarterback Joseph Vick to freshman wide receiver Yetxiel Perez Gilbes. McCarthy's XP was good to give the Ravens a 17-10 lead with 3:21 left in the first quarter.
On Coffeyille's next possession, red-shirt freshman running back Steven Robinson galloped for a 47-yard touchdown (McCarthy XP good) to give Coffeyville a 24-6 lead with 1:50 left in the first quarter.
Cisco put together a 10-play 59-yard scoring drive which was capped off by a 1-yard touchdown run (XP missed) to pull the Wranglers to 24-12 with 9:25 left in the second quarter.
After fumbles by both teams, Coffeyville got the ball back on their 33-yard line. The Red Ravens proceeded to go 46 yards over 16 plays which was capped off by a McCarthy 38-yard field goal to give the Ravens a 27-12 lead which they took into halftime.
Early in the third quarter, Coffeyille's freshman kicker Roan McCarthy converted his third field goal on a monster 57-yarder he converted through the uprights.
Midway through the fourth quarter Cisco scored their last points on an 18-yard touchdown pass to pull within 30-19.
Coffeyville's final touchdown came on a pick-six as Red Raven sophomore DB Cyler Christmas picked the Cisco pass attempt and raced 30 yards for the touchdown. McCarthy's perfect evening continued with the extra point and Coffeyville had the 37-19 victory.
Coffeyville will open up its 2024 home schedule this coming Saturday, September 14th as they will host the Broncbusters of Garden City in Veterans Memorial Stadium on Skip Foster Appreciation Day. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
