#5 Raven Men Defeat #RV Butler 81-68, Earn at Least a Share of Conference Championship!

Coffeyville, Kan. - The #5 NJCAA ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Basketball team defeated the #RV Butler Grizzlies 81-68.  With the win, the Red Ravens have earned a least a share of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) East Division Title.  #15 Cowley College still has a game left to play at Neosho County on Friday, April 2nd.  If Cowley wins that game, Coffeyville and Cowley will share the Conference title.  If Cowley loses, Coffeyville will win the title outright.

Coffeyville will end the 2020-21 regular season with a 20-2 overall record including an 18-2 KJCCC record.  The 2020-21 KJCCC East Conference title marks the 15th conference title for the Red Ravens under Hall of Fame Head Coach Jay Herkelman.

This game had a familiar feel to it in that past Coffeyville men's basketball assistant Kyle Fisher is now in his second year as the head coach of the Butler Grizzlies.  However, once tipoff came, all friendlies were put aside and a basketball game was to be won.

The Ravens jumped out quickly on the Grizzlies building a ten-point lead within just a few minutes of tipoff.  Coffeyville led by 18 (40-22) at halftime and seemed to cruise in the second half.  Butler did pull with 9 points about midway through the second half, but the Ravens were having none of it and quickly pushed the lead back to double digits finally ending with the 81-68 victory.  For the game, the Ravens shot an outstanding 50% (28/55) from the field.

Coffeyville had five players in double figures led by sophomore Bostyn Holt who had 13 points on 4/5 (80%) shooting.  Sophomore Tylor Perry and freshmen Markeith Browning and Blaise Keita each pitched in 12 points and freshman Kevaughn Ellis had 11.

Next up for the Red Ravens will be the 2021 Region VI/KJCCC Championships.  Depending on the Friday night Cowley game, the Coffeyville men will open up the Championship with either a home playoff game on Monday (April 5th) or Wednesday, (April 7th).  Stay tuned to redravenathletics.com for up-to-date schedule information.
