Red Raven Men's Basketball Earn 20th Victory of Season With 77-74 Defeat of Indy Pirates

February 12, 2020

Red Raven freshman guard Tylor Perry scored the final five points of the game to secure the road victory for the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven men's basketball team over the Independence Pirates, 77-74.  With the victory, the Red Raven's overall record moves to 20-8 and 12-6 in the KJCCC East Division.  The 12-6 KJCCC mark currently has the Ravens in third place in the seven-team East division.

With just under two minutes remaining in the game, the Red Ravens found themselves down 72-74 on the road in a hostile environment.  However, freshman guard Tylor Perry calmly sank a 3 pointer from the left side of the court to give the Ravens a 1 point lead (75-74).  From that point forward, Coffeyville's defense stoned Independence, not allowing the Pirates to score to finish the game. Perry sank a couple of free throws late for the Ravens to secure the 77-74 victory.

Coffeyville's Hall of Fame head coach Jay Herkelman stated after the game that; "This was a great college game with a great atmosphere.  Over the last 3 minutes of the game, we played well and I was proud of our team and our effort in closing."

Statistically, the Red Ravens saw four of their five starters score in double figures in a balanced scoring attack.  Sophomore guard Tony Hutson led the way for the Ravens with 17 points.  Sophomore Meikkel Murray and freshman Tylor Perry each had 16 points and freshman forward Larry White contributed 12 points.  Overall the Ravens shot 46% (24/52) from the field.

Coffeyville looks to continue winning this Saturday, February 15th with a home matchup against the Panthers of Neosho County.  Tip-off in Nellis Hall is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
