Red Raven Men's Basketball Suffers Home Loss to #6 Ranked Cowley Tigers, 96-91

February 5, 2020

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven men's basketball team lost at home against the #6 NJCAA ranked Cowley College Tigers, 96-91.  With the loss, Coffeyville's overall record moves to 17-8 and 9-6 in KJCCC play.  The 9-6 KJCCC record currently has the Ravens fifth in the seven-team KJCCC East division.  The KJCCC East standings can be viewed by clicking HERE.

The #6 Cowley Tigers came into Coffeyville riding an 8 game win streak and the Ravens looked to play spoiler.  The Ravens held their own through the first half and were able to mount a 44-41 lead at halftime. However, in the second half, the frenetic pace that Cowley plays with seemed to throw the Ravens off-kilter just enough to allow for Cowley to capitalize on CCC's turnovers (18 for the game).  The Ravens held close till the end but the game slipped away late for Coffeyville with the Ravens missing a number of crucial late-game free throws (CCC was 15/28 on FT's on the night).  At the buzzer, Coffeyville found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard with the 96-91 defeat.

In the loss, Coffeyville was able to put five of their players in double figures as far as scoring.  Sophomore Meikkel Murray led the Ravens with 28 points (12/18 FG's) and 5 rebounds.  Freshman Larry White pitched in 16 points and 7 rebounds with Sophomore Manny Crump adding 15 points and 9 rebounds.  Sophomore Tony Hutson added 12 points and freshman Tylor Perry rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points.

The Ravens look to rebound from the loss with a travel date on Saturday, February 8th to Concordia Kansas to compete against the Cloud County Thunderbirds.  Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
