January 22, 2020

In a Coffeyville hosted matchup against Montgomery County community colleges, the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens men's basketball team defeated the Independence Pirates 81-73.  With the win, the Red Raven's overall record extends out to 16-6 overall and 8-4 in the KJCCC East division.  The win elevated Coffeyville (4th) over Independence (5th) in the East conference standings.

The game was close throughout with Independence holding a one-point (40-39) halftime lead.  However, the Red Ravens were able to slowly pull ahead in the second half to gather the 81-73 victory.  The Ravens shot well in the game going 27/52 (52%) overall and an excellent 9/21 (43%) from the three-point line.  In contrast, the Pirates shot 26/70 (37%) and 11/35 (31%) from three.  Coffeyville out rebounded Independence by 14 (43-29) but that edge was blunted some by turnovers with Coffeyville committing 20 turnovers in the game to Independence's 8.

However, the story of the night for Coffeyville was sophomore guard Tony Hutson.  Hutson had an outstanding night with a game-high 28 points on 8/15 shooting overall and 6/13 from the three-point line along with 6/6 from the charity line.  Other top performers for the Red Ravens in the game included sophomore Meikkel Murray who had a 17 point 12 rebound double-double and sophomore center Kymani Dunham with 13 points.  Sophomore Manny Crump rounded out the double-figure scorers for Coffeyville with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Next up for Coffeyville will be a road game to Chanute Kansas to take on the Panthers of Neosho County.  Game time is set for Saturday, January 25th at 7:30 pm.
