The Coffeyville Community College men's basketball team defeated the Barton County Cougars in the semifinals of the 2017 Region VI Division I Men's Basketball Tournament 91-87.

The win extends the Red Raven overall season record to 21-12.

The win also puts the Ravens into the finals of the Region VI Tournament.  The tournament finals will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 8th at Hartman Arena in Park City Kansas.  In the finals, the Red Ravens will compete against the Hutchinson Blue Dragons.  The Blue Dragons are 31-1 on the year with the lone loss being a one point (86-85) loss to Coffeyville on January 28th in Hutchinson.

Against the Cougars, the Red Ravens jumped out early playing a masterful first half to build a halftime lead of 47-30.  The Red Ravens shot 18/35 (51%) and 4/8 (50%) from behind the three point arc in the first half.  In contrast, the Cougars in the first half were held to 9/29 (31%) and 0/7 (0%).

The second half saw the Cougars put in a run to save their season, but the huge first half deficit was just to big for Barton County to overcome.

The ending box score shows that the teams were close at the end.  Both teams scored the same amount of field goals (31) and the same amount of three pointers made (7).  However, the Red Ravens connected on four more free throws (22-18), therefore sealing the Red Raven victory 91-87.

The Red Ravens had a balanced night scoring the rock, with four players in double figures.  Sophomore Tedrick Wolfe had a double double on the night with 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Sophomore forward Jordan Taylor added 19 points and 4 rebounds.  Freshmen guard Travis Washington put in 18 points and 8 assists along with being a cool 8/8 from the free throw line (6/6 in the final 3 minutes of the game). Freshmen guard Malik Keith contributed 12 points to the Red Raven victory.

The Red Ravens will be playing in the finals of the Region VI tournament for the first time since winning their last Region VI Championship in 2011.
