15 Second Half Points Give Red Ravens the 15-7 Victory Over #13 Butler on Homecoming

Coffeyville, Kan. - On a cold, rainy, and windy homecoming evening, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football Team scored fifteen second-half points to defeat the #13 NJCAA-ranked Butler Grizzlies.  With the victory, the Red Ravens' overall record improved to 3-5 including a 1-4 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) matchups.

In a tight defensive struggle as well as terrible weather conditions, the Red Raven offense came alive at the end of the third quarter going on to score 15 points over the last 17 minutes.  With the adverse weather conditions, both offenses struggled through most of the game with the Red Ravens losing three fumbles and throwing another three interceptions on the night while the Grizzlies' offense had a lost fumble of their own as well as throwing two interceptions themselves.

However, over the last 17 minutes of game time, the Red Raven offense switched on to snatch the victory from the Grizzlies of Butler.  Coffeyville scored first at the very end of the third quarter when Red Raven freshman quarterback Geremiah Moore floated a beautiful 21-yard pass to sophomore wide receiver Joseph Young for the touchdown.  The extra point failed and Coffeyville had a 6-0 lead at the 1:53 mark of the third quarter.

Just a few minutes later, Butler intercepted a Coffeyville pass to give them a short field to work with and went 26 yards in 6 plays to score a short 2-yard rushing touchdown.  The extra point was good and Butler held a 7-6 lead at the 13:27 mark of the fourth quarter.

At the 3:30 mark remaining in the fourth quarter, Red Raven freshman quarterback Enzo Tedesco had the play of the game as he ripped off a 63-yard touchdown run to push the Red Ravens to the 12-7 lead (The Red Raven 2-point conversion failed).

Coffeyville was able to add some insurance as the Red Raven sophomore kicker Conner Gellender drilled a 25-yard field goal to give the Ravens a 15-7 lead with 1:23 remaining in the game.

A last-gasp attempt by the Grizzlies ended with the Red Ravens intercepting Butler at the 50-yard line and after a couple of kneel-downs by the Ravens, the victory was Coffeyville's.

The Coffeyville defense was the unsung hero of the night only allowing Butler to score a season-low 7 points while the Grizzly offense was only able to muster a total of 109 yards on the night.

Coffeyville's offense racked up 319 total yards of offense while Red Raven freshman running back Omiri Wiggans had 18 rushing attempts for 92 yards and Raven quarterback Moore had 14 rushing attempts for 77 yards.

This was the fifth straight victory over Butler for the Red Ravens.

Coffeyville will hit the road for the upcoming week as they will travel to Council Bluffs Iowa on Saturday, November 4th as they are scheduled to play the #2 NJCAA ranked Iowa Western Reivers.  Kickoff in Council Bluffs is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
