#18 Red Raven Women's Basketball Open Season With 83-31 Victory Over Labette

Coffeyville, Kan. - The #18-NJCAA ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball Team opened their 2023-24 season in style as they dispatched the Cardinals of Labette 83-31 on opening night.

Opening night jitters were present for the Red Ravens as they pushed through roughly four in a half minutes of the first quarter before they were able to put the ball in the basket when freshman Karys Washington sank a three for the first points of the season.  However, once the ball fell through the basket, Coffeyville's offense ran a little smoother for the rest of the evening.

Statistically, the Red Ravens shot 36% on the night including 24% from behind the arc.  With the shooters the Red Ravens have on the team this year, it would be a good assumption to expect those numbers to increase going forward into the season.  On the flip side, defensively, the Red Ravens looked pretty good in the opening game.  Coffeyville's defense kept the Cardinals offense to 21% overall shooting as well as 18% from behind the arc.

On the night, the Red Ravens had three players in double figures including sophomore guard Olivia Dyja with a game-high 17 points on 5-10 3-pt shooting, sophomore transfer Ivy Fox with 12 points and 8 rebounds, and freshman forward Alexis Parker with 12 points and 5 rebounds.

Coffeyville will return to action this weekend as they travel to Harrison Arkansas for Friday/Saturday matchups in the North Arkansas Classic.  The Ravens are scheduled to play Crowder College on Friday, November 3rd at 5:30 p.m. and then turn around and play North Arkansas College on Saturday, November 4th at 2:00 p.m.
