Red Raven Women's Soccer Open Season with a 5-2 Victory Over Crowder

Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Soccer Team wanted to have a good start to their season, and that is what they got in a 5-2 home victory over the Crowder Roughriders in game #1 for the 2023 season.

With just four minutes into the match and the season, Red Raven sophomore Thayline Teixeira took a pass from freshman Lucy Staines and deposited the ball in the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead over the Roughriders.  Later in the half, Crowder answered with a goal of their own and the match went into halftime tied at 1-1.

Thirteen minutes into the second half, Teixiera and Staines connected again with Teixeira heading in a beautiful pass into the box from Staines to put the Ravens up 2-1.  

Crowder answered again netting a goal of their own to tie up the match at 2-2.

Coffeyville moved ahead for good with sophomore Nathalia Luiz netting a free kick to give the Ravens the 3-2 lead with twenty minutes remaining in the match.  Red Raven sophomore Veronica Calixto put an exclamation point on the evening as she netted two goals by taking passes from freshman Makenna Lunsford and sophomore Jocelyn Alfonso to put the Ravens up 5-2 to finish the match.

Coffeyville looks to continue the early season success by returning to action on Wednesday, August 23rd as the Ravens will open up their 2023 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) schedule by traveling to El Dorado KS to play the Butler Grizzlies.  Game time in El Dorado is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
