Red Ravens Earn First-Ever Win in El Dorado with a 1-0 Victory Over #7 Butler

El Dorado, Kan. -  The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Soccer Team did something they had not done in program history, they earned a win over the Butler Grizzlies IN El Dorado KS.  Over the years, the Red Raven women's team had accomplished a lot but one thing had been missing, a victory in El Dorado.  Well, that is a thing of the past as the Red Ravens earned the 1-0 road victory over the #7th NJCAA-ranked Grizzlies.  With the victory, the Red Ravens moved to 2-0 on the early season including an important 1-0 mark and 3 points in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) matches.

Coffeyville's lone goal came at the 18:00 minute mark of the first half as Red Raven sophomore Bethany Brogan passed a long upfield pass to sophomore Veronica Calixto who, while colliding with Butler's goalie, got a foot on the ball which then dribbled into the Grizzly goal.

Following the Coffeyville goal, the Red Raven defense set in to turn away the Grizzlies for the remainder of the night.

Butler had multiple chances over the remainder of the match including a total of 12 Butler corner kicks in the contest as well as 19 shots including a total of 10 shots on goal.   Red Raven freshman goalkeeper Rosa Forero Calabuig stood solid between the pipes turning away all 10 shots on goal from the Grizzlies.

In talking about his team's victory, head Red Raven coach Jerrid Schicke said "I'm really excited for our ladies and the program.  I just can't get enough.  Our group has worked hard and they deserved this.  Though, It's just 3 points.  There's an incredibly tough conference schedule on the horizon."

Coffeyville will return to action on Wednesday, August 30th with a home match against the Barton Cougars.  Kick-off in Veterans Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
