Red Raven Men's Basketball Holds On To Defeat the Cougars of Barton 61-60

In a tight game, the Coffeyville Community College men's basketball team was able to hold on and defeat the Cougars of Barton County 61-60.

The much needed win extended the overall record for the Red Ravens to 18-11 and their KJCCC record to 14-11.  The Ravens are currently fifth in the KJCCC standings, just one game out of fourth.

The Ravens held small leads throughout most of the game, however the Cougars were able to take their first lead of the game at 57-56 with 2:33 remaining in the second half.  The Ravens answered ten seconds later with Raven sophomore Jordan Taylor drilling a three pointer to push the Ravens back on top by two 59-57.  After some missed shots by both teams, the Cougars hit a three pointer with 44 seconds remaining to take the lead back 60-59.  On the Ravens ensuing possession, Raven guard Travis Washington was fouled and made two clutch free throws to again put the Ravens on top 61-60.  In their last possession, the Cougars were not able to get a good look at the basket and a wild three point attempt was was off the mark.  The Ravens held on for the 61-60 victory.

Statistical leaders for the Red Ravens included Travis Washington (15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists), sophomore forward Greg Poleon (12 points and 7 rebounds), forward Jordan Taylor (11 points and 6 rebounds), freshmen forward Cedric Roland (8 points and 3 rebounds) and freshmen guard Mike Cubbage (6 points and 6 assists).

The Ravens will travel to Ark City Kansas on Monday, February 27th to face the Cowley Tigers in their last regular season game.  Tip off is set for 7:30 in Ark City.

Coffeyville Community College men's basketball team will be hosting an opening round Region VI/KJCCC playoff game on Thursday, March 2nd at 7:30 pm in Nellis Hall.  Their opponent is yet to be determined.
