#15 Red Ravens Defeat #9 Monroe 2-1 and NEO 1-0 to remain Unbeaten

Coffeyville, Kan. - In a busy weekend with home matches on Friday and Saturday, the #15 NJCAA ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Soccer Team defeated the #9 ranked Monroe College Mustangs 2-1 on Friday and turned right around and defeated NEO 1-0 on Saturday.  With the wins, the Ravens remain unbeaten with a 9-0 record including a 4-0 mark in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) matches.  Coffeyville currently sits atop the KJCCC Division I East standings.

In the Friday match versus the Mustangs of Monroe, Coffeyville started the game aggressively and looked to give the Mustangs no space or time to develop an attack. Both teams created chances but also defended well. The first 20 minutes were back and forth as both the Red Ravens and Mustangs looked to get in behind each other's backlines. It proved to be a physical first half that included many individual battles, aerial duels, and important tackles. The wind also played a factor as it made it more difficult for both teams to swing the ball around the pitch. It was challenging for either team to make a difference on the scoreline. The first half would finish 0-0 and both teams went into the locker room looking to make the adjustment that would lead towards the first goal.

The Red Ravens and Mustangs came out of halftime determined to break the deadlock. It would be the Mustangs who scored the first goal of the match. Credit to Coffeyville for the way they reacted to Monroe's goal. The Red Ravens picked up their tempo and intensity in search of an equalizer. Sophomore captain, Tiago Dias, led by example by netting the Red Raven's first goal to make it a 1-1 contest. Sophomore Aleksandar Mihaylov curled a beautiful ball into the Mustangs' box off of a set-piece. The Red Ravens big center-half attacked the ball with power and everyone in the stadium knew there would only be one result. Dias rose above his opponents and put the ball past Monroe's goalkeeper with a commanding header.

With only 14 minutes left in the game, the Red Ravens looked to get the game-winning goal. Their determination and tenacity were rewarded in the 87th minute, freshman Antonio Podstawski would be the hero for Coffeyville. Fellow freshman, Richie Bailey, was the provider for Podstawski's goal. After scoring the goal, the Red Ravens locked down on defense and kept the ball on the Mustangs' half. Coffeyville proved why they are one of the best soccer teams in the NJCAA by pulling off the massive 2-1 victory over #9 Monroe College.

Coffeyville turned right around and laced them back up for a second home match in as many days with their close rival the Norseman of NEO.

After the emotional victory over the NJCAA ranked Monroe, the Red Ravens came out and took care of business with the close 1-0 victory over NEO.

The lone score in the game came from Coffeyville's #14 sophomore midfielder Nicolaus Stoddart.  At the 40:14 mark of the first half, Stoddart took a nice set-up from Raven freshman forward Bawl Min thang and with a nifty move around the Norseman goalie netted the only goal of the game for a 1-0 lead.

Raven sophomore goalkeeper Cuba Grant earned the 1-0 shutout turning away all four shots on goal he faced from NEO.

Next up for the 9-0 Coffeyville will be a home match on Wednesday, October 2nd against the Blue Devils of KCK.  The kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
