Red Raven Men Earn Two Game Win Streak With 5-0 Win Over Neosho County

Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Soccer Team earned their second win in a row with a 5-0 shutout of the Neosho County Panthers.  With the win, the Red Ravens' overall record improves to 2-1 on the season.

The Red Raven men hosted Neosho County Community College in their second conference game of the season at the Veteran Memorial Stadium. The lads went into the game with high spirits and confidence after picking up their first points of the season earlier in the week and were looking to replicate a similar outcome.

In the first 5 minutes, the boys came out extremely sharp and really set the tempo for the game. Neosho didn't respond well to the pace of the game and Emilio Briceno picked up the ball around 25 yards out, clipped a lovely over-the-back line for top scorer Connor Pugh to bring down and finish with class. The boys continued to press well and forced the Neosho center back to play a ball back to his keeper, which was then picked up by the goalkeeper himself. This resulted in an indirect free-kick inside the box, which Aleksander Mihaylov was able to convert nicely and find the top corner.

The wind continued to play its usual part at the Veteran Memorial Stadium and with the Red Ravens having it in their backs, it allowed them to dictate a lot of the first half. Miguel Da Silva takes possession of the ball around 25 yards out and gets fouled by the Neosho defender; Pedro Branco then stepped up and whipped a beautiful ball into the bottom corner to make the game 3-0 with only 15 minutes on the clock gone.

Shortly after, the Red Ravens began to possess the ball around the back a lot more and continued to be extremely patient on the ball. Eventually, an opening appeared when freshman defender Tiago Dias was on the ball; he drove a ball down the center of the pitch and found Miguel Da Silva running in behind which was cooly slotted away to put 4 on the board for the Red Ravens.

As the first half was coming to a close the boys were not done just yet. The Red Ravens won a corner ball, which was taken by Aleksander Mihaylov who swung it to the back post and was powered in by Tiago Dias for his second major involvement of the match.

The lads went into halftime up 5-0 and full of confidence going into the second half. The game management shown by the boys in the second half, allowed them to maintain the scoreline and see out the rest of the game.

The Red Raven men will head to Garden City on Sunday the 11th of April for their next match. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
