Red Raven Men Win Sixth in a Row with 2-1 Victory Over KCK

Kansas City, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Men's Soccer Team won their sixth in a row with a 2-1 road victory over Kansas City Kansas Community College.  With the win, the Red Ravens improve their overall record to 6-1 including a 4-1 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) games.  That 4-1 KJCCC record currently has the Red Ravens in second place in the division I KJCCC standings, one game behind 5-0 Cowley College.

Both teams came out with a point to prove in this one. KCK was coming off a three-game winning streak, while the Red Ravens were coming off a five-game one of their own, there was a lot at stake for this Jayhawk conference clash.

Both sides came out very strong from the start and created changes that could have resulted in a lead being taken. Dominic Bombourg producing 2 very crucial saves in the first half that kept the boys in the game, one of them being a 1v1 and the other coming from a close-range scramble in the box.

However, around the 35-minute mark, Aleksander Mihaylov delivered a lovely back post ball from the corner, which was converted by a rising Tahj Hylton to put the Red Ravens up 1-0.

The Red Ravens continued to battle and aimed to see the half out, but nevertheless, KCK piled the pressure on in the closing minutes of the first half and managed to equalize the score with a header that was delivered into the Red Raven's box from a corner.

It was a season-defining moment for the lads, and they were fully aware of the task at hand in the next 45 minutes. Coffeyville came flying out the blocks for the second half, winning first balls, second balls, and overall seemed to have a different energy about them.

Pedro Branco was continuously delivering dangerous balls into the box, but it just wouldn't fall for a man in Red. Chances were being created at both ends of ten pitch, however with 12 minutes remaining on the clock a ball was whipped in by Pedro Branco at the back post from a corner, the ball was challenged in the air, it broke to Daniel Gomes on the backside, who floated a great ball back into the danger zone, Tahj Hylton rose once again and headed it down to the keeper, the keeper makes a great save, but it wasn't enough as Tahj Hylton followed it in with the rebound and the game winner!

The Ravens saw out the last 10 minutes of the game with great professionalism, and Coffeyville was able to escape with the 2-1 victory.

Coffeyville now has a week off before their next matchup which will be a home matchup against the Cavaliers of Johnson County.  Coffeyville vs Johnson is set for Wednesday, April 28th at 7:00 pm in Veterans Memorial Stadium.
