Raven Men Down the Conquistadors 3-2 In Overtime

Dodge City, Kan. - The #18 NJCAA ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Soccer Team traveled to Dodge City Kansas, and defeated the Conquistadors of Dodge City Community College 3-2 in overtime.  With the victory, the Ravens' overall record improves to 8-1 including the winners of eight in a row.

The Red Raven men traveled to Dodge City this past weekend and were hoping to make it their eighth win on the bounce. When arriving at Dodge City, it was soon obvious that conditions were going to play a part at some point, with the temperature sitting around 85f. The lads took a bit of time to get into the speed of the game, and around the 25-minute mark, the Red Ravens slipped behind 1-0 and had their backs against the wall. However, straight from kick-off, the boys played some lovely football to advance up the field, eventually finding Pedro Branco in a crossing position, who delivered a beautiful ball into the box for Connor Pugh to get his head on and bring the game level.

Nevertheless, Dodge was not quite done there. Minutes later they played a long ball that Coffeyville didn't deal with and conceded a foul in a dangerous area. The ball was whipped in the back post for the Dodge player to come flying in and put them back in front.  A new lease of life really seemed to come out in the boys as they began the second half, and they possessed the ball very well. Dodge City was barely able to get out of their own half, and the pressure was definitely mounting as the half went on. With 20 minutes left on the clock, Nicolaus Stoddard picked up the ball in a dangerous area on the edge of the box and was brought down by a Dodge defender. Jurgen Ramirez lined himself up from around 20 yards out and laced the ball with great power, resulting in an equalizer that the keeper stood no chance with. Coffeyville found another level of energy at that point and going into the last 15 minutes, they were pilling the pressure on to try and find the winner. Dodge managed to get a man sent off with minutes remaining in the second half, and this really gave the boys a huge sense of confidence to kick on and take the game.

The game went into overtime, and 6 minutes into it Dodge City tried delivering a free-kick into the box. The ball was cleared by Emilio Briceno high into the air and down the field; it bounced a couple of times before Connor Pugh flicked it on with a header, which fell into Miguel Da Silva's path, who slotted it away for the overtime winner to complete the comeback. Ravens win 3-2.

Next up for Coffeyville will be a road game at the Panthers of Neosho County.  Kick-off in Chanute is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
