Red Raven Men's Soccer Disposes of Johnson County 5-0

Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Soccer Team defeated the Johnson County Cavaliers 5-0.  With the win, the Red Ravens' overall record moves to 7-1 including the winner of seven in a row.

A quick start is what the boys needed tonight, and that's definitely what they got. In the opening 4 minutes of the game, Emilio Brienco wins a ball that was clipped into the air, Miguel Da Silva controls the bounce well, and it falls into the path of Edwin Towers who slipped Aleksander Mihaylov in, who cooley converts and put the Red Raven men 1-0 up.

The intensity was high from minute one, and the boys were looking to kick on from this great start to the game. Shortly after, Edwin Towers finds himself on the right-hand side and delivers a wonderful ball to the back post, where Connor Pugh is waiting there to nod in his first of the match and his 6th for the season.

Around the 10 minute mark, the Red Ravens were awarded a corner that was taken by Pedro Branco. He whips in a lovely ball to the center of the 18, where Miguel Da Silva is there to take advantage of the dangerous ball and head it in to make 3-0 to the Ravens inside the opening 10 minutes.

The lads continued to pile the pressure on and were pushing for that fourth goal. That came very soon after when Miguel Da Silva found himself through on goal, he tried slotting it around the keeper, but the Johnson County goalkeeper pulled off a great save; however, following the save it bounced up in the air to Edwin Towers, who hit it first time on the volley, it skidded off the turf and made its way into the back of the net.

Going in 4-0 up at halftime, the lads were confident and were ready to put the game even more out of reach. At the beginning of the second half the boys came out a little slow, and Johnson County kept the ball well and managed to put some pressure on the Coffeyville backline. However as the second half went on, the momentum began to shift again and the Red Ravens began picking up the tempo of the game. Midway through the second half, Emilio Brienco found himself with a throwing 20 yards into the Johnson half; he threw the ball into Mikail Prince, who set the ball lovely for Emilio to deliver a fantastic ball into the box, that bounced over the keeper and was tapped in by Miguel Da Silva for his second goal of the game.

The Ravens ended the night with the 5-0 victory.

Next up for the Ravens is a road match against Dodge City Community College.  Game time in Dodge City is set for Saturday, May 1st at 4:00 pm.
