Red Raven Volleyball Gets Revenge on Scotties, Earn First Conference Win of Season

The Red Raven Volleyball team got a little revenge this past Wednesday night (Sept 4th) opening their conference season at Highland Community College.

Why were the Red Ravens thinking revenge you might ask? The last loss the Ravens suffered was on October 30th, 2018 at Highland Community College with the Ravens being swept 3-0.  Coffeyville bounced back from that loss last year and went on to win the 2018 NJCAA Div II National Championships.

However, this year, Coach Downing and the returning sophomores were not in the "forgive and forget" type of mood.  To add a little spice to the matchup, the season's first weekly NJCAA poll came out on Tuesday night (Sept 3) with the Ravens listed at #2 and the Scotties of Highland ranked #4 in the national poll.

In this matchup, Coffeyville was able to earn the victory, and some revenge, in a complete 3-0 sweep against the Scotties.  The sets were somewhat close (25-21, 25-18, 25-19), but the Ravens proved to be the better team on this night.

Statistically for Coffeyville, sophomore Faith Simpson led the team in kills with 16 with sophomore Seliann Concepcion right behind with 12 kills.  Sophomore Danielle Dodge led the team with 18 digs, again followed by Concepcion with 16.

The Ravens will be home this weekend in hosting the Red Raven Volleyball Invitational on Friday, Sept 6th and Saturday, Sept 7th in Nellis Hall Gymnasium.

Coffeyville will play the 3:00 and 7:00 pm matchups each day with Metropolitan and Independence on Friday and NEO and Neosho on Saturday.
