Red Raven Volleyball Opens the Season in Impressive Fashion!

The 2019 Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Volleyball team opened up their National Title defense in impressive fashion.

They swept the Ottawa University JV team 3-0 Tuesday night (Aug. 27) in Nellis Gymnasium to kick off their season.

The 2019 Red Raven Volleyball team is coming off back-to-back NJCAA div II National Championships and wanted to get their 2019 season off on the right foot.  Against the Ottawa JV, the Red Ravens came out of the gates blazing and pummeled the JV team from Ottawa with hit after hard it.  The Ravens won the first set 25-11.  The second and third sets saw Raven head coach Delice Downing, liberally substituting players to achieve early season playing time and the Ravens went on to win the second and third sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-20.

Faith Simpson, a tranfer sophomore from Palisade Nebraska, led the Red Ravens offense with 16 kills and 19.5 points.  Second on the team with 10 kills was sopomore Seliann Concepcion (Toa Baja Puerto Rico).  Defensively, Danielle Dodge, a sophomore from Topeka Kansas, led the team with 18 digs.

Next up for Red Raven Volleyball is a road tournament at Highland Community College this Friday and Saturday (Aug 30th & 31st).  Coffeyville is scheduled to play Iowa Lakes Community College and Ellsworth on Friday (4:00 and 8:00) and Ottawa JV and NEO on Saturday (11:00 and 1:00).
