#8 Red Ravens Close Game on 19-5 Run to Defeat #RV Cowley 74-61

Coffeyville, Kan. - In their opening game of the 2022-23 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) schedule, the #8 NJCAA ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Basketball Team defeated the #RV Cowley Tigers 74-61.  With the victory, Coffeyville improves their overall season record to a clean 7-0 including a 1-0 mark in KJCCC games.

Wednesday's game was the third matchup between Coffeyville and Cowley since the Ravens defeated the Tigers in the 2020 NJCAA National Championship game.  This game was not quite as dramatic, but it did feature two undefeated teams, Coffeyville at 6-0 to start the season and Cowley at 5-0.

The first half of the game was tightly contested with the largest lead for either team being five points.  Cowley led 14-9 at one point early in the half and Coffeyville came back and led 22-17 later in the half.  The first half ended with the Ravens holding a slim 39-38 lead on the scoreboard.

The first fifteen minutes of the second half was more of the same, again with neither team taking control.  However, over the last five minutes of the contest, Coffeyville was able to make some shots and combined with some timely defensive stops, extend out on the scoreboard with a 19-5 run to seal the 74-61 victory.

Red Raven freshmen Hayden Brittingham had a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds to earn the point/rebound double-double while sophomore Nathan Johnson contributed 13 points and freshman Camian Shell added 12 points.

Coffeyville will remain at home as they will face the Broncbusters of Garden City on Saturday, November 19th in Nellis Hall.  Tip-off in Nellis Hall is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
