Softball Advances to Second Round

The Red Ravens took two games from Allen Community College to punch their ticket to the NJCAA Division II Region Tournament in Topeka, KS.  

The #5 seeded Allen Community College hosted #10 Coffeyville Community College in a fight to keep the season alive and the Red Ravens were not ready to hang up their cleats.  Alyssa Dawson scored in the first inning on a single by Makenzie Bill.  The Red Devils answered in the 3rd putting up a run to tie the game at 1-1.  Red Ravens offense exploded in the top of the 4th. Adrienne Myers kicked off the 4-run inning with a 2-run homerun bringing home Bill.  To follow, Morgan Welch and Danielle Stover both reached base on back to back singles.  Alyssa Dawson singled to bring in two more runs to cap off the inning.  Back-to-back walks in the top of the 6th led the Red Ravens to another four run inning.  Rebecca Luper hit a three-run shot over the left field fence to give the Red Ravens some breathing room.  The Red Devils answered in the bottom of 6 posting 3 runs to bring the game within striking distance.  However, the Red Ravens were not finished.  The offense put up two more runs in the top of the 7th inning.  Reagan Bradley and Mateighia Tanner singled back to back. Dawson picked up another RBI in the 7th scoring Bradley.  Adrienne Myers grabbed herself another one as well singling to score Tanner.  After a hard fought 7th inning, the Red Devils fell short losing game one to the Ravens 11-8.  Dawson threw a complete game for the Red Ravens allowing only 3 earned runs earning her 12th win on the mound. 

Allen Community College brought their 7th inning fight into the second game putting five runs on the board in the 2nd inning.  Dawson picked up another RBI in the top of the 3rd scoring Stover to get the Red Ravens on the board.  After the Red Devils scored another run in the bottom of the 4th the Red Ravens answered with a huge, 8 run 6th inning. Dawson led off the inning with a single and was quickly followed by Bill, Myers, Angie Nixon, and Morgan Welch all with singles to rally the inning.  Luper grabbed a pair of RBI’s with a base clearing double to cap off the inning.  The Red Devils scored two more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to cut the Red Ravens lead to only one run.  After a scoreless 7th inning for the Red Ravens the Red Devils hit back-to-back singles before a fly ball to Bradley ended their season in a 9-8 loss.  Freshman, Alexia Taylor threw a complete game to capture the win for the Ravens.  Taylor gave up only 5 earned runs and earned her 6th win of the season.  

 

The Coffeyville Red Ravens will travel to Topeka to face Hutchinson Community College at noon on May 5th in the NJCAA Division II Region Tournament in Topeka, KS.
