27 Raven Athletes Receive Academic Honors From NJCAA, 12 Teams Awarded for Academic Excellence

A total of 27 Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens were honored for their academic performance by the NJCAA for the 2015-2016 academic year including four athletes who received the Pinnacle Award, the highest academic honor bestowed by the NJCAA.

The four Coffeyville athletes receiving the Pinnacle Award were Carolina Machado (volleyball), Cole Murphy (football), Tiffaney Johnson (women's track), and Tyler Cunningham (baseball). The Pinnacle Award requires a student-athlete to maintain a perfect 4.0 grade point average over a two-year period.

Ten Ravens received the NJCAA's second highest academic honor, the Superior Academic Achievement Award. This award requires a student athlete to compile a grade point average between 3.8 and 3.99 over a two-year period. Ravens receiving this honor were Alan Dunn (baseball), Caletria Curtis (women's basketball), Connor Crutchfield (baseball), Igor Luczensky (men's soccer), Josephus Davies (women's track), Julia Dierker (women's golf), Kalei Matthews (women's track), Polette Medina (volleyball), Rachel White (women's golf), and Reina Garcia (volleyball).

Another 13 Ravens received the Exemplary Academic Achievement Award for compiling a grade point average between 3.6 and 3.8. Athletes receiving this distinction were Cole Sanderson (baseball), Desiree Nelson (women's basketball), Gilmar Barrera (football), Janelli Torres (volleyball), Joshua Fisher (baseball), Loushanya Nemour (women's track), Marley Harrison (women' soccer), Michael Pursley (football), Kealin Smith (baseball), Shalei Matthews (women's track), Shaniqua Stevens (women's track), Taylor Kangethe (volleyball), Terrence Williams (men's track).

Several CCC athletic teams were also honored by the NJCAA as an All-Academic Team. Teams receiving this award had to compile a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or above during the 2015-2016 academic year.

CCC teams achieving this award level were: baseball (3.32 gpa), women's basketball (3.17 gpa), men's cross country (3.40 gpa), women's cross country (3.22 gpa), men's golf (3.32 gpa), women's golf (3.66 gpa), women's indoor track (3.13 gpa), women's outdoor track (3.14 gpa), men's soccer (3.08 gpa), women's soccer (3.03 gpa), softball (3.26 gpa), and volleyball (3.47 gpa).
