Red Raven Baseball Takes 3 of 4 vs Hesston in Weekend Series

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Baseball Team played a doubleheader at Hesston College on Saturday and then hosted Hesston at Walter Johnson Park on Sunday for another doubleheader.  Coffeyville split the two games on Saturday at Hesston and swept both home games on Sunday.  With the three victories, the Red Ravens' overall record improves to 8-5 on the season.

Saturday, February 25th - Game #1, 7 innings - Red Ravens 9  Hesston Larks 4  (Won) 

Red Ravens jumped on top early in game #1 on Saturday with Coffeyville taking a 6-1 lead into the top of the fifth inning and then coasting to the 9-4 victory.  Coffeyville outhit the Larks 11-6 in the game.

Offensively, the Red Ravens were led by sophomore designated hitter Ryan Ready who went 3 for 4 in the game with an RBI.  Sophomore Jack Bell, sophomore Mason Holton, and freshman Tate Moody each had 2 hits in the game for the Ravens.

Freshman right-hander Ricky Hernandez earned the victory on the mound for the Ravens to move to 2-0 on the season.  Hernandez pitched 6 strong innings allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 5 and walking 1.

Saturday, February 25th - Game #2, 7 innings - Red Ravens 1  Hesston Larks 4  (Loss)

Coffeyville's offense dried up in the second game on Saturday as the Ravens were limited to 4 hits in the game.  Hesston gained the advantage early scoring 3 in the second to take the lead.  Coffeyville was able to score 1 in the fifth but could not muster anything else and lost 4-1.

Red Raven shortstop Mason Holton had two of the Ravens' four hits in the game to lead Coffeyville.

Sunday, February 26th - Game #3, 7 innings - Red Ravens 9 Heston Larks 4 (Won)

The first game on Sunday was close through the first five innings, then Coffeyville blew it open in the bottom of the sixth scoring 7 runs to cruise to the 9-4 victory.

Red Raven freshman Carson Schrack went 3 for 4 in the game with an RBI and sophomore catcher Drake Unrein went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs.

Freshman right-hander Ryan Leiker earned the victory (2-1), Leiker pitched in and out of trouble going six innings allowing one earned on six hits while striking out 4 and walking one.

Sunday, February 26th - Game #4, 7 innings - Red Ravens 18  Hesston Larks 9  (Won)

19 hits by the Red Ravens and 6 errors by Hesston equaled up to an 18-9 victory for the Red Ravens.

Red Raven Sophomore Jack Bell, Carson Schrack, Mason Holton, Drake Unrein, Ryan Ready, and sophomore Quintin Platt all had multi-hits in the game.  Platt had five RBIs while Ready and Bell each had three.

Coffeyville used five pitchers in the second game on Sunday to secure the victory.

 

Next up for Coffeyville will be a 4-game series against the Hutchinson Blue Dragons.  Coffeyville will play a doubleheader in Hutchinson on Thursday, March 2nd (1p/3:30p) and then return home to host the Blue Dragons on Saturday, March 4th (1:00p/3:30p).
