Red Ravens Baseball Take Two From Fort Scott

Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Baseball Team swept a home doubleheader against the Fort Scott Greyhounds 5-2 and 12-2.  With the two wins, the Red Ravens improve their overall record to 20-16 including a 12-10 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference record.  The 12-10 KJCCC mark has Coffeyville currently in fifth place out of nine in the KJCCC East standings.

Game #1 (7 innings) - 5-2 Victory

Game #1 saw Coffeyville score quickly, plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone for the day.  The Ravens went on to score a single run in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead.  Fort Scott was able to score two in the top of the fourth to pull the score within two at 4-2.  Coffeyville then added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning to push the score to the ending victory of 5-2.

Coffeyville scored their five runs on eight hits.  Raven freshman Orlando Gonzalez and sophomore Trey McClelland both had two hits in the game with McClelland hitting a towering home run. 

Raven freshman left-hander Chat Hayes went the distance for Coffeyville on the mound going seven strong allowing two runs on five hits while striking out 8 for the win.

Game #2 (7 innings) - 12-2 Victory

 Coffeyville's bats came alive in the latter innings of Game #2 with the Ravens scoring 12 runs over the last four innings of the game.  The Ravens plated one run in the fourth, three in the fifth, three in the sixth, and five in the seventh to pull the 12-2 victory.

Coffeyville scored their twelve runs on nine hits.  The play of the game was a crushed grand slam homerun by Raven redshirt freshman Jayden Kay in the bottom of the seventh inning to put an exclamation point on the 12-2 victory.

Redshirt freshman right-hander Tayler Mahoney earned his second win of the year pitching five innings allowing one earned on one white while striking out five.  Right-hand sophomore Alex Galvez pitched two innings in relief allowing one earned on two hits.

 

Coffeyville will now travel to Fort Scott on Saturday, April 24th for a scheduled doubleheader with game times set for 1:00 and 4:00 pm.
