Red Raven Baseball Splits 4 Game Series With Hutchinson Blue Dragons

Coffeyville, Kan. - In a four-game home and away series with Hutchinson Community College, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Baseball Team split the four games winning the first two games at Hutchinson and losing the second two at home.  With the four-game split, the Red Raven's overall 2022 record moves to 8-4.

Game #1 @ Hutchinson - Red Ravens 7, Blue Dragons 3  (7 innings)

Red Raven lefty Chat Hays (2-1) was on the mound for Coffeyville going the full seven innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits.  Hays struck out 5 while walking 1.  The Ravens belted out 10 hits in the game including a solo home run by freshman Tyler Massey.  Sophomores AJ Craft and Korbin Ford each had a double in the game.

Game #2 @ Hutchinson - Red Ravens 16, Blue Dragons 1 (7 innings)

Coffeyville jumped out quickly scoring 4 runs in the first and 4 runs in the second to take a commanding 8-0 lead after two innings.  The Ravens would finish the game scoring 2 in the fifth, 4 in the sixth and another 2 in the seventh to wrap up the 16-1 victory.  

Red Raven sophomore righty Kinson Michel (2-0) went the distance throwing a strong 7 innings allowing only 1 earned on 5 hits while striking out 10 and walking 1.  Raven sophomore Quinton Carlberg had a nice day at the plate going 3 for 5 with a double and 4 RBIs.  In all, the Ravens scored 16 runs on only 8 hits.

Game #3 @ Coffeyville - Red Ravens 6, Blue Dragons 9 (7 innings)

Again Coffeyville jumped out quickly on Hutchinson, scoring 2 runs each in the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead after two.  However, Hutchinson came back in this one scoring one run in the fourth and then 4 runs each in the fifth and sixth.  The Red Ravens could not retaliate and lost 9-6 in seven.

Sophomore Christopher Spry started for the Ravens going four and two-thirds allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits while striking out 5 and walking 1.  Freshman Tyler Massey and sophomore Austin Gonzales each had two hits in the game and freshman Brady Claypool had a solo home run.

Game #4 @ Coffeyville - Red Ravens 4, Blue Dragons 9 (9 innings)

In the lone 9-inning game of the series, the Blue Dragons built a 5-0 lead in the middle of the fourth inning and the Red Ravens could not close the gap and lost 9-4.

Raven sophomore Jayden Quarles (0-1) started on the mound for Coffeyville going three and a third allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2.  Raven sophomore Quinton Carlberg continued his nice series offensively, going  2 for 3 at the plate including a 2-run home run.

 

Coffeyville returns to action this Thursday, March 10th with a home afternoon doubleheader against the Cavaliers of Johnson County.  Game times are set for 1:00 and 3:30 at Walter Johnson Park.
