Red Ravens Walk Off With Two Victories Against the Red Devils of Allen County

Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red  Raven Baseball team won both ends of a home doubleheader against the Red Devils of Allen County.  With the two victories, the Red Ravens improved their overall season record to 21-24.

Game #1 (7 innings) - Red Ravens 9  Red Devils 2 

Coffeyville took command early scoring two runs in the first while Allen scored a single run in the third.  The Red Ravens then exploded for three runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth on their way to the 9-2 victory.

Red Raven freshman right-hander Ricky Hernandez earned his seventh victory of the year (7-2) going six strong on the mound for Coffeyville allowing two earned runs on eight hits while striking out five and walking two.

Sophomore center fielder Jack Bell led the Ravens on offense going three for four at the plate, scoring two runs, and stealing two bases.  On the season, Bell is averaging .368 at the plate and has recorded 34 stolen bases.

Sophomores Ryan Ready and Quentin Platt each recorded two RBIs.

Game #2 (9 innings) - Red Ravens 9  Red Devils 8

The second game of the day had the Red Ravens fighting their way back in a matchup that saw the Red Devils of Allen score four runs in the top of the first inning.  After the fifth inning, Coffeyville was trailing Allen 8-1 and it was at that point that Coffeyville turned up the offense.  The Ravens went on to score three in the bottom of the sixth, three in the bottom of the eighth, and a dramatic two in the bottom of the ninth to secure the 9-8 victory.  The winning run in the ninth came on a walk-off HBP with freshman Tate Moody being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to plate the winning run.

Freshman right-hander Keyan Crawford earned the victory (1-0) by coming in in relief in the top of the fifth inning and dealing an excellent five innings allowing zero earned on one hit while striking out six.

Sophomore first baseman Ryan Ready paced the Ravens at the plate going three for five.  However, Red Ravens Carson Schrack, Jack Bell, Mason Holton, Tyler Gundelfinger, and Quentin Platt each had two hits in the game.  Holton had three RBIs while Schrack and Platt each had two.

 

Coffeyville will return to action on Saturday, April 22nd as they will travel to Iola Kansas to complete the last two games of the four-game series against the Red Devils.  Game times in Iola on the 22nd are set for 1:00 and 4:00 pm.
