Ravens Lose Series to Johnson; Headed to Colby for Postseason

The Red Ravens traveled down to Johnson Community college for a four game series all at their field due to weather. Johnson County was ranked 12th nationally coming into the weekend and Coffeyville was looking to see if they could get the upset. The first two games Friday were considered Coffeyvilles home game and they were away Saturday.

Starting game one Coffeyville had their ace on the mound, Sophomore Aaron Bechtel went 6.0 innings with 8 strikeouts, 5 hits, and gave up 3 runs. All in all it was one of the better performances by the Wichita state commit. Offensively the Ravens couldn't get going. Johnson scored 3 in the first two innings of the game, the Ravens couldn't respond until the sixth inning with one of their own off a RBI by Chase Freeman. They Ravens fell short to JCC 3-1 in the first game of the double header.

In game 2 Coffeyville looked to avoid getting swept on the day. Sophomore Jackson Blancarte took the mound for the Ravens. Blancarte went 6.1 innings giving up 6 runs off 10 hits and 1 strikeout. The Ravens would go to the bullpen 3 times in this matchup. Sophomore reliever Owen Logan would get called on first, Logan struck out 1, walked 1, and gave up 1 run. Sophomore closer Matt Hunt would get called on next and give up 2 hits. The third reliever to get called on was Freshman Chance Crowley, Crowley went 2.0 innings and gave up 1 hit, 1 run, and recorded a strikeout. Coffeyvilles offense showed up better this game recording 8 hits and scored 4 runs. Sophomores Zac Freeman and Blake Carroll both had multi-hit games. Freeman went 2-4 with a stolen base and 2 runs. Carroll went 3-3 with a double and 2 RBI's. The Ravens offense was better but it wasn't enough, they would fall short 9-4.

In a big game 3 starting off the second day for the Ravens Tucker Sparks starts with the ball for Coffeyville. Tucker Came out and threw 4.1 innings for the Ravens giving up 5 runs on 7 hits but managed to work 4 walks in his 4 and ⅓ innings of work. Chance Crowley came out of the pen for Coffeyville to close out tuckers half of the 5th inning where he would give up one hit, in his 3 batters faced. Kris Sloan came out to finish the road game off where he would face 3 batters and strike out all 3. The Ravens hitters were good, racking up 6 hits including sophomore Austin Bonnel who went 3-4 on the game. Coffeyville had trouble getting their baserunners in only having 1 RBI off the bat of Luis Mendoza. The Ravens couldn't quite get it done in game 3 dropping the first of day 2, 5-1

The Ravens in game 3 were not looking to get swept, coming out of the gates firing with emotion and heart. Raymond Farrell showed his heart in his start of game 4 throwing 6.0 innings giving up 3 hits and only 1 run and racking up 6 strike out  to the explosive JCCC offense. Matt Hunt would come out from the bullpen to finish off Raymonds gem and continues the Raven pitching trend, throwing 3.0 inning and only allowing 1 baserunner and managed to record 4 strikeouts on the outing. The Red Raven offense backed their pitchers in game 4 of the series scoring 7 runs on 7 hits. Sophomores Chase Freeman and Jorge Ortiz showed off their wheels snagging a stolen base each. Chase also recorded an RBI on his 2-5 performance on the day. The Ravens pitching and hitting worked together in a great Red Raven win, 7-1.

The Ravens will begin their postseason Thursday at 3pm in the first regional game against the Trojans of Colby Community College.
