Red Raven Women's Soccer Score Late Overtime Goal to Seal Victory Against #18 Cowley

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's soccer team pulled off the upset against #18 nationally ranked Cowley Tigers this past Saturday afternoon (Oct 12).  In a road game at Cowley College, the Red Ravens were able to put the ball in the net with only 36 seconds remaining in the 10 minute overtime period to earn the 3-2 victory.  With the win, the Red Ravens move to 10-5 overall on the season and a 6-4 KJCCC record.  Coffeyville is currently 4th in the 7 team KJCCC East division.  The Red Ravens have wins against the top 2 teams in the KJCCC East, Cowley and KCK.

Coffeyville sophomore mid-fielder Ashley Talley scored the Red Ravens first goal of the match to tie the game at 1-1.  Freshman Masiga Mediatrix followed Talley's goal with a goal of her own to put the Red Ravens up 2-1 over Cowley at halftime.

The second half saw a defensive struggle with Cowley netting a goal late in the half to tie the score at 2-2.  The remainder of regulation play saw neither team score and the 90 min regulation time ended with the teams all tied up.  With 44 seconds remaining in the 10 minute overtime period, Red Raven freshmen Louise Atkinson earned a penalty kick 30 yards to the left of Cowley's goal.  On the kick, Atkinson was able to kick the ball to the front of the goal where it was tipped around until Coffeyville freshman Kennedy Ward netted the ball to give the Ravens the big 3-2 upset win.

Red Raven women's head coach, Jerrid Schicke, earned his 99th career victory in the win.

Coffeyville will return to action this Wednesday, October 16th with the last home regular season match of the year which will also be the Raven's Sophomore Apprectiation night.  The Ravens will take on the Caveliers of Johnson County.  Game time at Veteran's Memorial Stadium is set for 5:00 pm.
