Red Raven Women's Soccer Take Down #19 NJCAA Ranked KCK

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven women's soccer team earned a big victory at home on Wednesday night (Sept 25) against the #19 NJCAA ranked Kansas City Kansas CC Blue Dragons.  The Red Ravens played an excellent match and defeated the Blue Dragons 5-3.  The win moved Coffeyville's overall record to 7-4 and 3-3 in KJCCC play.  The Red Ravens are currently sitting in the fourth slot in the seven team KJCCC east division.

KCK started the game out quickly scoring the game's first goal at the 38:30 mark in the first half to take a 1-0 lead over the Red Ravens.  The Red Ravens put a mark on the scoreboard themselves when sophomore Ashley Talley scored a left footed goal at the 5:00 mark of the first half to tie the score at 1-1.   Just a couple of minutes later, Coffeyville struck again with freshman Louis Atkinson finding the back of the net to give the Red Ravens a 2-1 lead at the 4:00 mark of the first half.  Just barely a minute later, Atkinson struck again beating two defenders to put another bolt to the back of the net to give the Red Ravens the 3-1 halftime lead.

At the 23:30 point of the second half, KCK closed the gap with a corner kick that KCK was able to convert into a header for a goal.  This closed the Red Ravens lead down to 3-2.  Within a minute, the Blue Devils tied the game at 3-3 with a close open net goal.  Coffeyville was able to fight back and take the lead with Atkinson scoring her third goal of the game at 7:00 mark to the Red Ravens the lead for good at 4-3.  With under 50 seconds to go in the match, Ashley Talley  put some icing on the cake with her second goal of the game to give the Ravens the win with a final score of 5-3.

With the win, Coffeyville's head women's coach Jerrid Schicke earned his 96 career win as he inches ever closer to the 100 win mark.

Coffeyville hopes to take the momentum from this win as they travel to Chanute Kansas on Saturday (Sept 28th) for a match agains the Neosho County CC Panthers.  Game time is set for 5:00 pm.
