Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Soccer Team opened up their 2021 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play at home with a dramatic 1-0 victory over their KJCCC East rivals Johnson County.  With the victory, the Red Ravens push their overall record to 2-1 including a 1-0 record in KJCCC play.

The match versus Johnson started off with aggressive attacks from both teams. Each was trying to feel the other out and look for opportunities. Johnson put in some dangerous corners early in the first half and the lady Ravens traded jabs with the Cavaliers throughout the first half. Coffeyville's Alia Jaidi, Katie Burfoot, and Emily Hannah we're menacing the whole first half creating opportunities.

The Red Ravens backline led by 2020 defensive player of the year Shyanne Reid was not allowing for any Johnson's nonsense, snuffing out all the Cavaliers' attempts before they could get shots on goal.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half and the halftime score was 0-0.

The second half was much of the same until in the 83rd minute when the Red Ravens were able to break the deadlock. Riley Palmer Katie Burfoot and Alia Jaidi were able to put together some nifty combinations on the outside wing, stretching out the Cavelier backline. Then in a flash, Jaidi found Emily Hannah in a central pocket and Hannah was able to thread the needle back to Jaidi who broke through the backline and netted the game-winning goal.

Red Raven goalie Cat Burns and the strong Red Raven backline locked down the remaining minutes and Coffeyville was able to secure the three KJCCC points awarded for the KJCCC victory.

In the victory, Red Raven defender Emily Hannah was chosen as the player of the match.

Coffeyville will return to action on Saturday, September 4th with a road game scheduled in Great Bend Kansas against Barton County.  Kickoff against Barton is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
