Red Raven Women's Soccer Bag the Cougars of Barton in 2-1 Double Overtime Victory

Great Bend, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Soccer Team traveled to Great Bend Kansas on Saturday to take on the Cougars of Barton County.  In a dramatic double-overtime setting, the Red Ravens earned an exciting 2-1 victory.  With the victory, the Red Ravens improved their overall record to 3-1 including 2-0 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) matchups.  The undefeated KJCCC mark currently has the Ravens in first place in the KJCCC Div-I East standings.

In the first half of the match, the Cougars started off strong, moving the ball thru the midfield and creating chances.  Barton was able to net a wind-assisted goal early in the first half (2:08) from outside the area to draw first blood.

The Ravens quickly made a few adjustments which immediately changed the game. Under constant pressure, the Cougars were unable to keep possession and the Lady Ravens were able to snag the equalizer before the half. Coffeyville's Bianca Rea beat her mark on the wing and put in a back post chip that went off the goalkeeper's hands into the back of the net.  The Red Ravens and the Cougars went into halftime tied at 1-1.

The second half was much of the same with both teams battling but neither gaining the advantage. Coffeyville's freshman goalkeeper Cat Burns made some crucial saves throughout and the CCC backline remained steadfast.  Regulation ended with the score tied at 1-1.  Ten minutes of the fist overtime also ended with the teams tied at 1-1.

During the last minutes of the second OT, the Ravens made a key substitute, replacing Shyanne Reid with Brianna Chadwick on the backline.  Shyanne would quickly be subbed back into an attacking role where she was able to get on the ball and take on the Barton backline herself. As she streaked down the left wing she was able to play a perfect across to Bianca Rea who punched it in for the game-winner.  Match to Coffeyville 2-1.

Next up for the Red Ravens (3-1) will be a home match against the Panthers of Neosho County (0-3).  The match is scheduled for Wednesday, September 8th at 5:00 pm in Veterans Memorial Stadium.
