Coffeyville, Kan. - A strong second half helped the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball Team defeat the Mavericks of Northwest Kansas Technical Collge 59-47. With the victory, the Red Ravens improved their 2022-23 overall record to 12-6 including an 8-4 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference matchups. The 8-4 KJCCC record and the 12-6 overall record currently has the Red Ravens in fifth place in the 13-team KJCCC Division I standings.
After returning to Nellis Gymnasium after two road games to western Kansas (Seward and Pratt), the Red Ravens started out sluggish in this contest against the Mavericks of NW KS Technical only scoring seven points in the opening frame. Coffeyville did pick it up in the second quarter scoring 15 points in the second to take a slim 22-21 lead into halftime.
The Red Ravens came out of their first-half funk in the second half as they outscored the Mavericks by a total of 37-26 in the second half to gain the 59-47 victory.
Game leaders for Coffeyville included freshman guard Kyleigh Ortiz who had 18 points in the game off of 6/10 shooting from behind the three-point arc. Sophomore center Cheynne Banks had an impressive double-double in the victory going for 12 points and a career-high 21 rebounds! Other double-figure rebounders for Coffeyville included sophomore guard Kennady Roach who contributed 3 points and 11 rebounds and sophomore forward Jordynn Conner who had 4 points and 10 rebounds.
Coffeyville will head back on the road for their next matchup as they will travel to Arkansas City Kansas to take on the Tigers of Cowley College on Wednesday, January 18th. Tip-off in Ark City is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
