Goodland, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball team played a good first half and a not-so-good second half as they lost to the Mavericks of Northwest Kansas Technical College 68-60. With the loss, the Red Ravens completed their 2022-2023 regular season with a record of 18-12 including a 14-10 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) games.
Coffeyville had a strong start to the game jumping out to a 23-11 score after the first quarter and maintaining it through the second quarter as they went into halftime leading the Mavericks by thirteen, 37-34. However, in the second half, Coffeyville was outscored 44-23 on their way to the 68-60 defeat. The fourth quarter game stats jump out in the loss as Coffeyville shot an overall 22% (4-18) in the quarter while NW KS Tech shot an overall 58% (7-12) as well as sinking 7-8 free throws.
Game leaders for Coffeyville included sophomore Cheyenne Banks with 12 points, freshman Kyleigh Ortiz with 9 points, and Bailey Layman also with 9 points.
Even with the loss, the Coffeyville Red Ravens were able to secure the fifth seed in the upcoming 12-team Region VI Women's Division I Tournament. #5-seeded Coffeyville will host the #12-seeded Beavers of Pratt Community College in the first round of the Region VI Tournament on Saturday, March 4th at 2:00 pm. in Nellis Hall. The winner of the Coffeyville-Pratt matchup will then play at Hutchinson against the Blue Dragons on Tuesday, March 7th.
