Ravens get Revenge, Defeat Neosho at Home 83-69

February 15, 2020

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven women's basketball team currently has five losses on the season.  One of those losses came in a road game at the hands of the Panthers of Neosho County who defeated the Ravens on February 25th by a score of 89-59.  Fast forward from that game a couple of weeks and the Ravens were itching for some revenge.

In a rematch of that earlier loss, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven women's basketball team defeated the Neosho County Panthers 83-69.  The victory extends the Ravens' overall record to 24-5 and 14-5 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play.  With the 14-5 KJCCC record, the Ravens are sitting atop the KJCCC East standings, a half-game up on Butler County.

This game saw the Ravens jump out early on Neosho, with the Ravens leading by five (18-13) after the first period and eight (35-27) at halftime.  In the second half, the Panthers never really made a run and Coffeyville coasted to the 83-69 victory.

In the game, Coffeyville distributed the ball efficiently with 25 assists on 32 made baskets.  The only area of concern for the Ravens was the number of turnovers in the game with Coffeyville committing 19 for the game.

Top Red  Raven performers included freshman Faith Simpson with 20 points and 7 rebounds, sophomore McKenzie Murrel-Patton with 19 points (4/8 from 3), sophomore Julia Calafell with 12 points and sophomore Alana Kramer with 10 points.

Coffeyville has one last regular-season game scheduled with a home matchup against the Grizzlies of Butler.  Coffeyville will again be looking for some revenge.  Butler defeated Coffeyville in a game played at El Dorado Kansas earlier in the season with the Grizzlies getting the narrow 61-59 victory.  Additionally, as if the game needed any additional motivation, the winner will earn the KJCCC East title and a bye in the first round of the Region VI playoffs and the loser will earn the KJCCC East runner up position and host a KJCCC West school in the first round of the playoffs.  Game time for the monster matchup is set for 5:00 pm in Nellis Hall on Saturday, February 22nd.

The February 22nd game will also serve as Red Raven Fan appreciation Night and CCC Red Raven Hall of Fame induction.

Tickets for the game will be at a discounted price for both Reserve Seats ($4) and General Admission ($1).  The most recent CCC Red Raven Hall of Fame recipients will be introduced at halftime of the men's game that evening.
