Red Raven Women's Basketball Battle Hard Against #6 Seward, Lose 76-83

The Coffeyville Community College Women's Basketball team battled the #6 ranked team in the nation, the Seward County Saints, extremely hard but in the end lost 76-83.

With the loss, the Red Ravens fall to an overall record of 16-7 and 15-5 in the KJCCC conference.

The Ravens started out the game hot with eleven quick points off of three pointers by freshmen Lucy Burke, sophomore Patriece Dodson and sophomore Alanie Fisher.  The Ravens held a 11-6 lead barely four minutes into the game and were able to hold onto a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The start of the second quarter saw the Ravens put in a scoring spurt and take a 22-13 lead, their largest of the game, at the 7:39 mark of the quarter.  However, the Saints, showing their #6 in the nation metal, battled back to eventually take the halftime lead of 28-34. 

In the third quarter, points were being put up by both teams.  Initially, the scoring for the Red Ravens came from Alanie Fisher, who scored three straight baskets, to pull the Ravens within four at 34-38. After a made Seward basket that pushed the score to 34-40, the Red Ravens went on a 12-0 run behind a three point barrage by Dodson, sophomore Desiree Nelson, and Burke that put the Red Ravens ahead at the 5:00 mark quarter 46-40.  After some made three pointers of their own, Seward retook the lead at the end of the third quarter 58-53.

The final quarter saw the Red Ravens pull as close as two (63-65), but in the end could not get over the hump to secure the victory.  Seward ended up getting the victory over the Red Ravens 83-76.

The final stat line for the game saw Seward edge out the Ravens in rebounds (38-35), assists (21-19) and turnovers (14-19).  The Saints held a big edge in second chance points, leading the Ravens 23-13 in that area.

Stat leaders for the Ravens included Patriece Dodson (17 points and 7 rebounds), Alanie Fisher (17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists), Desiree Nelson (12 points on 4-7 from three) and sophomore center Antionette Daniels (10 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists).

The Ravens will return to action on Saturday, February 11th against the Panthers of Neosho County.  Tip-off in Nellis Hall is schedule for 5:00 pm.
