Ravens Muzzle Greyhounds, Win Homecoming Football Game!

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven football team defeated the Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds 27-20.  The win moves the Red Ravens to 3-2 on the season and 1-2 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.

Red Raven sophomore receiver #2 Terry Wright, from Memphis Tennessee, had a game to remember.  On a night when the Red Ravens scored four touchdowns, Wright was responsible for three of them.  Wright caught three passes, each for a touchdown.  Wright's receptions included a 32 yard touchdown in the second quarter to put the Red Ravens up 14-0.  He also caught a 52 yard touchdown bomb towards the end of the second quarter give the Red Ravens a 20-7 lead.  His third reception was a game winning 54 yard touchdown dagger to the heart of the Greyhounds late in the fourth quarter to put the Red Ravens up for good, 27-20.  Wright ended the game with 3 receptions for 139 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The game started out with Coffeyville outplaying Fort Scott most of the first half. The Red Ravens scored first off of freshmen Darreon Jackson, from Wichita Kansas, catching a punt and racing it 93 yards for the touchdown. The Red Ravens ended the first half with a 20-7 halftime lead.

With about eleven minutes left to play in the game, the Greyhounds had fought back to tie the game at 20-20.  After the Greyhounds tied the game at 20's, the Red Ravens got the ball and went four plays and then punted the ball back to Fort Scott.  The Greyhounds went on a long six minute drive that ended with a blocked 40 yard field goal.  Coffeyville took over, after the blocked field goal, from their own 24 yard line with 3:30 left in the fourth quarter.  Four plays later, Wright caught his 54 yard touchdown to put the Ravens up for good, 27-20.

Top performers for the Red Ravens included sophomore Marcelus Ware, from St Petersburg Florida, with 10 rushes for 50 yards, sophomore quarterback Coleman Key, from Broken Arrow Oklahoma, going 16-30 for 259 yards and 3 touchdown and of course Terry Wright and his 3 catches for 139 and those 3 long touchdowns.

The Red Raven defense was led by Marquavis Gibbs who had a total of 11 tackles and a pass breakup, and sophomore Markes Scott, from Miami Florida, who had 3 sacks for a total of 21 yards lost.

The Red Ravens return to action at home next Saturday, October 8th at 7:00 pm against #5 ranked Garden City Community College Broncbusters.
