Red Raven Football Takes Care of Business Defeats Iowa Central 47-6

Saturday, October 22

On a warm and breezy fall afternoon, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven football team defeated the Iowa Central Tritons 47-6.

Battling the wind and Iowa Central, the Red Ravens were not able to get much going in the first quarter.  However, the Red Ravens were able to push the game into overdrive in the second quarter with the wind at their backs.

Barely a minute into the second quarter,  CCC sophomore quarterback Coleman Key found Red sophomore wide receiver Terry Wright for a 71 yard touchdown pass and catch.  Red Raven freshmen placekicker Cooper Lee was good with the extra point and CCC had the lead at 7-0.

Four minutes later, Red Raven sophomore running back Marcelus Ware broke off a 7 yard touchdown run, and with another Lee extra point, moved the CCC lead up to 14-0.

At the 5:55 mark of the second quarter, Cooper Lee took advantage of the wind at his back and nailed a 37 yard field goal to again extend the Red Raven lead, now at 17-0.

Red Raven receiver Terry Wright continued his big second quarter with another touchdown pass, this time a 22 yard grab from quaterback Key for the touchdown.

Coffeyville went to halftime with a lead of 24-0.

Iowa Central was able to post a rushing touchdown midway through the third quarter, but the extra point was blocked by the Red Ravens and CCC still led 24-7.

A couple of minutes later CCC freshmen D-lineman Zach Burks, from Olathe Kansas, got the crowd going with a rock solid tackle in the Triton endzone for a safety.  At this time, the Red Ravens were up 26-6.

To finish the third quarter, sophomore wide receiver Cole Murphy, also from Olathe Kansas, caught a 25 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Coleman Key.  This score extended the lead to 33-6.

In mop up time, Red Raven freshmen running back Leonard Green, from Kansas City Kansas, put on a display with two rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter, one for 23 yards and beautiful 52 yard scamper.

The game ended with CCC winning 47-6.

Red Raven quarterback Coleman Key ended the game 19-38 for 246 yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception.  Sophomore running back Armond McCray, from Wichita Kansas, was the top rusher for the Red Ravens with 12 carries for 85 yards.  The top receiver was Terry Wright with 4 catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns.

The win moves Coffeyville's overall record to 5-3.

Next up for the Red Ravens will be a travel date to Dodge City Kansas, on October 29th, to take on the Dodge City Conquistadors.  Kick-off for the game is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
