Dasher, Lee shine as Red Ravens fall to #4 Iowa Western

#4 Iowa Western 57 (4-1)

Coffeyville Red Ravens 14 (1-3; 1-1 conf.)

The #4 team in the nation, Iowa Western, came into Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday September 23 and looked to revenge last years loss to the Coffeyville Red Ravens.

The Red Raven defense looked up to the task on the Reivers opening drive, as they forced the Reivers to punt.  Following an offensive three and out, the Red Raven defense stepped up with an interception by Marcus Scott on Iowa Western's seven yard line.

However, with the great field position, the offense wasn't able to punch the ball into the endzone, nor were they able to put points on the board as kicker, Triston Bailey, missed his field goal.

Following the missed field goal, the Reivers would march 80 yards on 11 plays to score the games first touchdown.  On the Reivers next possession, the Vernon Dasher (pictured above) stepped up for the Red Ravens as he intercepted the pass and scored a defensive touchdown to tie the game.

From that point on it was the Reviers game.  The Reivers put up 569 total rushing yards along with 219 passing yards on the night for a total of 788 yards.  In comparison, the Red Ravens had a total of 158 rushing yards, 24 passing yards, for a total of 182 total offensive yards.

As Coach McCoy stated in the first episode of "Coffey with Coaches", the Reivers offense wasn't flashy, nor did they try to have the big plays.  The difference being, they executed their gameplan and continued a hard hitting, physical, attack.

The Red Ravens were down to their third string quarterback for most of the game as Freshman starter, Jack Diamond, went down due to injury.

Punter/kicker Cooper Lee had another outstanding night for the Red Ravens.  Lee put up 11 punts (1 shy of tying school record of 12) for 510 yards, 5 inside the 20 yard line and 4 fair catches.

The Red Ravens look to rebound as they prepare to travel to Fort Scott in next weeks conference match.
