#14 Red Ravens Move to 2-0 With a 38-10 Road Victory at Dodge City

Dodge City, Kan. -  The #14 NJCAA ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football Team took care of business Saturday night with a 38-10 road victory over the Conquistadors of Dodge City Community College.  With the victory, Coffeyville moves to a 2-0 overall record including a 2-0 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) record.

The Red Raven offense showed up in Dodge City.  Coffeyville amassed 497 yards of total offense on the night including 205 yards rushing and 292 yards of passing.

Red Raven sophomore running back Dorian Lewis opened up the scoring on Coffeyville's first possession with a 3-yard touchdown run.  Sophomore Forrest Taylor's extra point was good and the Ravens had a 7-0 lead over Dodge City early in the first quarter.

Dodge City answered right back on their first possession with a 31-yard touchdown pass on a 4th and 14 to tie the game at 7-7.

In what looked to be an offensive shoot-out, Coffeyville took the ball on their second possession right down and field and scored on an Isaiah Velez 13-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Almond.  Taylor's extra point was good and the Ravens pushed back ahead 14-7.

However, the offensive shoot-out would not come to pass as Coffeyville's defense stiffened on Dodge City's second possession forcing a three and out from the Conquistadors.  After the punt, the Red Ravens drove down the field and were able to get a Forrest Taylor 28-yard field goal to put Coffeyville up 17-7 early in the second quarter.

Later in the second, Dodge answered the field goal with one of their own, a 22-yarder to close the gap to 17-10 at the 6:41 mark of the second quarter.

As the first half was winding down, Coffeyville went on a long five-and-a-half-minute drive capped off by another Lewis 3-yard rushing touchdown to put Coffeyville up 24-10 at halftime.

Coffeyville was able to score on sophomore fullback Ferontay Cutler's 4-yd touchdown rush in the third quarter as well as another short Dorian Lewis rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to end the game with a Raven 38-10 victory.

Coffeyville's Lewis ended the game with 9 carries for 107 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Raven sophomore quarterback Isaiah Velez went 21-29 through the air for 236 yards and a touchdown and an interception.  Freshman receiver Joseph Young pull down a game-high 5 receptions for 73 yards.  Thirteen different receivers caught passes tonight for Coffeyville.

Defensively, the Ravens held the Conquistadors to 236 yards of total offense. Sophomore defensive back Amir Renwick led the Raven defense with 7 solo tackles and an assist.
