Ravens Defeat Norsemen 42-31

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven football team traveled to Miami Oklahoma and defeated the NEO Norsemen 42-31.

The passing of Red Raven sophomore quarterback Colman Key combined with the receiving of sophomore receivers Malik Stanley and Terry Wright was the story of the game.  Stanley ended the game with 16 catches for 189 yards and 2 touchdowns while Wright had 13 catches for 208 yards and a touchdown.  Quarterback Key for the game was 34 of 49 for 453 yards and 3 touchdowns.  The Red Raven trio was unstoppable throughout the game.

The game did not start out the best for Coffeyville, with the Red Ravens spotting NEO a quick 0-14 lead in the first quarter.

However, the Red Ravens came alive in the second quarter outscoring NEO 25-7 in the quarter and taking a 25-21 halftime lead.  The 25 second quarter points for the Red Ravens included a Cooper Lee 24 yard field goal, a safety by Red Raven freshmen linebacker Brian Miller, a blocked punt recovered by Red Raven sophomore defensive linemen Samson Sawyer for a touchdown, and two Malik Stanley receiving touchdowns (both 6 yard receptions).

Red Raven place kicker Cooper Lee started out the scoring in the third quarter with a 32 yard field goal to push the Raven lead out to 28-21.  However, NEO answered at the end of the third quarter with a rushing touchdown to tie the game at 28.

Red Raven sophomore running back Marcelus Ware scored on a 3 yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to give the Red Ravens the lead at 35-28.  After a NEO field goal to pull the score to 35-31, the Red Ravens ended the scoring late in the fourth with a Terry Wright 24 yard touchdown reception.  The game ended with the score 42-31 in favor of the Red Ravens.

The win moves Coffeyville's overall record to 4-3.

The Red Ravens will return to action on Saturday October 22 at Veterans Memorial Stadium against Iowa Central Community College.  Kick-off is set for 1:00 pm.
