Tournovers Doom the Red Ravens to Loss vs Independence in Final Regular Season Football Game

In the final 2016 regular season game of the year, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven football team lost at home to the Independece Pirates 46-21.

The turnover bug jumped hard on the Red Ravens with the team committing seven tournovers on the evening (3 interceptions and 4 lost fumbles).  Those seven turnovers lead to 23 points for the Pirates.  With that many tournovers, the Red Ravens could simply not recover.

The Red Ravens did stay with the Pirates early in the game.  Independence scored on their first possesion and were driving on their second when Red Raven freshmen linebacker Brian Miller scooped up an Independence fumble and rumbled 90 yards for the touchdown.  With a good PAT by Cooper Lee, the Red Ravens had a tied score 7-7 early in the first quarter.

From there, each time Coffeyville came close to pulling back into the game, a turnover would end their momentum.

Other scoring plays for the Red Ravens included a 4 yard pass from Red Raven sophomore quarterback Coleman Key to sophomore wide receiver Malik Stanley.  The remaining touchdown for the Red Ravens was a fourth quarter 4 yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Kelan Newton to sophonmore wide receiver Cole Murphy.

The Red Ravens ended their 2016 regular season with a 6-5 overall record and a 2-5 KJCCC conference record.
