Two upset victories and a school-record-tying performance have led to Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Football Players of the Week honors for Hutchinson's Waymond Jordan Jr., Highland's Javen Augustus, and Coffeyville's Roan McCarthy.
Offensive Player of the Week (Waymond Jordan Jr. - Hutchinson) - Running back Waymond Jordan Jr. had another huge game as No. 2 Hutchinson defeated No. 1 Iowa Western 38-37 on Saturday in Council Bluffs, IA. The Blue Dragon sophomore running back rushed for 174 yards on 24 carries and a 26-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Jordan has now had back-to-back 170-plus yards games.
Defensive Player of the Week (Javen Augustus - Highland) – Augustus was a beast on the defensive line for #13 Highland Community College as the Scotties knocked off #8 Iowa Central 14-13 in Fort Dodge, IA to get off to a 2-0 start this season. Through two games against NJCAA D1 opponents, Highland is allowing just 6.5 points per game defensively, the third best among NJCAA D1 schools who have played multiple games against NJCAA D1 schools this year.
Special Teams Player of the Week (Roan McCarthy) – Red Raven freshman place-kicker Roan McCarthy couldn't miss as the Red Ravens defeated the Cisco Wranglers 37-19. In the game, McCarthy was perfect as he drilled all 3 field goal attempts (28, 38, & 57 yds) including a team record-tying 57-yarder while also converting all 4 extra point attempts. For the afternoon, McCarthy contributed 13 points in the victory.
