Red Raven Women Fall to #12 Dodge City 73-66

Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball Team snapped their four-game winning streak with a 73-66 loss to the #12th ranked Dodge City Conquistadors.  With the loss, the Red Ravens' overall record moves to 14-7 including a 10-5 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) games.  The 10-5 KJCCC record currently has Coffeyville in fifth place in the 13-team KJCCC Division I conference standings.

In a rematch of an earlier season game that Coffeyville lost by twelve points ( Nov 22nd, 86-74) at the hands of the Conquistadors in Dodge City, the Red Ravens were hoping to give some payback to the #12 ranked Conquistadors.

Coffeyville did not get the start they wanted in this game as midway through the first quarter the Ravens found themselves down 9-0 and did not score their first point until Red Raven sophomore forward Jordynn Conner sank a couple of free throws at the 6:07 mark of the opening quarter to pull within 9-2 on the scoreboard.  As cold as the Ravens were the first four minutes of the game, Coffeyville picked up the pace on the offensive side over the next six minutes to close the gap and tie the score 15-15 as the first quarter ended.

Coffeyville's offense was hot the entire second quarter with the Ravens outscoring Dodge City 25-16 in the quarter to take a nine-point 40-31 halftime lead.

The third quarter started out similar to the first quarter with Dodge City opening up the quarter on an 8-0 run to close the gap quickly on the Ravens to start the second half.  Coffeyville could not find their magic from the second quarter and was outscored in the third quarter (20-10) and the fourth quarter (22-16) on their way to the 73-66 loss.

Coffeyville shot 35% in the game compared to Dodge City's 39% with the Ravens outrebounding the Conquistadors 47-39.  Turnovers were a problem for the Red Ravens with Coffeyville leading Dodge City 17-9 in the turnover battle.

Game leaders for Coffeyville included freshman guard Bailey Laymen scoring 20 points to lead the Ravens in scoring and sophomore forward Jordynn Conner pitching in a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Coffeyville will return to action this Saturday, January 28th as they will host the Colby Trojans.  Tip-off in Nellis Hall is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
