A hot shooting night for the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven women's basketball team helped them in defeating the Pirates of Independence Community College, 72-53.  The Red Ravens have won four straight games (all against KJCCC East schools) and their overall record is 23-5 and 13-5 in KJCCC games.  The Ravens are currently roosting atop the KJCCC East standings.

The 19 point victory was as simple as the Ravens made baskets and the Pirates did not.  As a team, the Ravens shot an overall 52% (26/50) for the game and 50% (8/16) from the 3 point stripe.  In comparison, the Pirates shot an overall 37% (21/56) including 21% (4/19) from three.

The Red Ravens also controlled the boards, outrebounding Independence 40-30.

In praise of his team after the game, head Coffeyville women's basketball coach Tony Turner said: "I thought we played well as a team, we communicated well and we controlled the boards."

Top players for the Red Ravens included freshman Faith Simpson who followed up her previous game's double-double with a 20 points and 11 rebounds double-double in this game. Simpson on the year is averaging 18 points and 9 rebounds per game.   Raven sophomore McKenzie Murrel-Patton chipped in with 13 points (4/7 from 3) and sophomore Ania Markowska contributed 11 points and 9 rebounds on the night.
